Barbara Glass
Barbara grew up in the north of England. She always enjoyed imaginary games with her friends and the company of imaginary creatures; some frightening and some companionable.
A mixed education gave her skills not easily used in the world that was developing in the sixties: ballroom dancing, calligraphy, hockey with a team of three against a team of two. Really? She doesn’t remember writing any stories, but she was always an avid reader of anything. Writing started when she had to write home about her travels to more and more interesting places, often embellished with her questionable sense of humour. Add a Kiwi husband to the mix of subjects, and the letters evolved into Christmas letters to explain her Kiwi life to her English friends and relatives. Encouraged to write by her fond readership, she joined a writing group in Queenstown in 2009. It amazed her that she was taken seriously and encouraged as if she were a real writer – a great group that propelled her into a whole new world. She found an equally supportive group in the Nelson area where she lives now. Her recent publication The Prince and the Dragon, a children’s book, is written and illustrated by Barbara. It is available from The CopyPress https://shop.realnzbooks.co.nz/shopn/spi/books_16457 or from Barbara at 027 443 1121. |
