I have lived most of my adult life in Nelson.
As a teacher of Speech & Drama and Performing Arts, I am constantly adapting stories and novels for my students to perform, and devising plays for them. Children are harsh critics and I'm constantly learning what does and doesn't work.
Outside of my teaching, I write mainly plays and poetry. My children's plays I've Got a Dinosaur in my Backyard (with Kath Bee) and Rapper Gnomes have won awards with Playmarket, and Down on the Farm was shortlisted in 2013. Anyone interested in performing these plays should contact Playmarket
As well as continuing to write plays for children, I have started writing adult plays and recently completed a ‘Politically Correct’ Western, From Serenity to Eden. While most of my plays are for the stage, I have written the odd one for radio, and was runner-up with Olga the Goose in the NZ Radio Drama Competition in 2006.
My plays are, on the surface, light-hearted but address contemporary universal issues. My poetry tends to be darker and is primarily social commentary on everyday issues. When time permits, I enjoy attending Nelson Live Poets.
As from April 2017 I am the chief presenter for the Top Writers Radio Show which is broadcast on Fresh FM. Listen here to my interview on Fresh FM in April 2017.
