Heidi van Elderen
Heidi van Elderen was born and raised in Germany, became a journalist and traveled the world, working in several side jobs. From her early twenties she dreamt about living in New Zealand, but first settled in the North Swedish wilderness for some years. There she fell in love with her Dutch husband, had two daughters, learned to milk goats and shoveled tons of snow.
In 2014 the whole family moved to the sunny Alentejo coast of Portugal, where Heidi started writing a detective series featuring the charming Portuguese inspector, Fernando Valente, and his headstrong pig Raquel. The first crime novel of the series, Mord auf Portugiesisch ('Portuguese Murder'), will be published in June 2019 by Penguin Verlag Germany, Random House. For the time being the book will only be available in German, but hopefully one day there will be an English translation.
Heidi and her family moved to New Zealand in early 2018.
