My career began at as an assistant librarian at Oamaru Public Library and ended when I retired from my position as Reference Librarian and Information Technician. During this time I was privileged to meet many visiting writers, including Keri Hulme, Janet Frame, Owen Marshall and Michael O’Leary.
After retiring to Blenheim, I began my first tentative attempts at writing poetry and was encouraged to join the Top of the South branch of NZ Society of Authors, where I gained much helpful tutoring. To date I have published some work in the Linkwater Mixed Bag Anthology and my poem ‘The Velvet Glove’ was published on-line by Muse-Pie Press. I won the Mapua Literary Festival Short Story competition in 2012. I was highly commended in the Page & Blackmore Short Story Competition in 2012, took third place in the same competition in 2013, and in 2014 I was short-listed for the Christine Cole Catley Award.
In 2014 I received two awards in the Nelson Romance Writers’ Short Story Competition. I am currently writing a collection of short stories, for which I am exploring publication options.
My novel 'Gone, Brother, Gone' was launched at Blenheim in December 2015. It is available from Page & Blackmore Booksellers in Nelson or Paper Plus in Blenheim. Read Marlborough District Libraries' recent review of the book here
