Sheila Kennard was born in England but has chosen to make Nelson her home. She is a keen dabbler with the written word, which led her to create a book of letters from her husband’s grandfather that were written from the trenches of the Great War. Through her research Sheila discovered things she felt Harold would like to know, so became his penpal. The end result is Sky Full of Stars – Penpals Across a Century, which was published in
Sheila has a Degree in Social Policy, undertaken when her children were teenagers. She also has a Diploma in Creative Writing from the NZ Institute of Business Studies. She never tires of learning something new and is an avid reader.
Sheila is also a complimentary health care practitioner in a variety of modalities. In her life in England she worked in supportive roles including family mediation, domestic violence support work, the Samaritans and Citizen’s Advice Bureau.
Sheila is a proud mother of two adult children and grandmother to five glorious grandchildren. She lives at Atawhai in Nelson with her husband, Jim, two dogs and a three-legged cat.
