The Top of the South Branch of the New Zealand Society of Authors

Angela Woolf

I’ve been writing for many years and enjoy contemporary and speculative fiction novels, flash fiction and short stories. I’m currently working on
three novels.

I’ve had several near successes, being long-listed in 2018 and 2020 for the NZ Society of Authors Michael Gifkins Literary Prize, and in 2019 my short story ‘First’ was a finalist in the Takahē Short Story Competition.

In my recent work, I’ve been exploring the victims of crimes who were harmed and unnamed, forgotten after the headlines and outrage dissipate. Their lives are altered forever and their reactions are often misinterpreted. There’s a story behind every one of them.

I live in Wairau Valley near Blenheim, looking out over wetlands from the house my partner and I have recently built. I enjoy meeting with other like-minded people and we have a small writing group in the valley which gathers every month to exchange ideas and create together.
