Megan Bell
Growing up deep in the Tadmor Valley, Megan had many opportunities to ramble over hills, fields and river beds with an overactive imagination for company. However, periods of illness meant that reading was at times the only way to escape, and a love of language and literature was established from an early age. At approximately 10 years old, she declared she wanted to be a writer but after being awarded Dux at Tapawera Area School in 1994, ended up graduating with a Diploma of Teaching (ECE) from Christchurch College of Education instead. During those training years, she wrote children’s stories which remained unpublished and after 25 years of kindergarten teaching and parenting, has woven many tales orally and read thousands of children’s books.
More recently, an urge to explore poetry and prose has led to a small collection, published in March 2022, called On Her Journey. It is based around her observations and experiences as a woman, navigating her way through life, relationships, societal ‘norms’ and expectations and, most pivotally, her relationship with herself. On Her Journey is available from https://www.facebook.com/meganbellpoetry |
