RENÉE
Ngati Kahungunu/Scot. Writer, reader
and teacher.    
Renée has written one collection of short stories, eight novels and 18 plays. Her memoir, These Two Hands, was published by Makaro Press in 2017 (2nd edition 2020). Her first crime novel, The Wild Card,  was published by The Cuba Pres in 2017, and her second, Blood Matters, will be published in 2022. Renée’s Panui for Te Pou Muramura ReadNZ was published November 2021.
​Renée has been awarded Officer New Zealand Order of Merit, the Kingi Ihaka Award for services to Toi Maori, and in 2018 received the Prime Minister’s Award for Fiction. Her most recent short story, Dancing with Michael Joseph, was published on her blog, Wednesday Busk.

Hana was recently involved in the Waiata Anthems series where she has worked with an array of musicians and artists, including a collaboration with Lorde on the Te Ao Mārama album. She was also part of the cohort of Ika-a-Whiro who translated a collection of poems by Maya Angelou, under the umbrella of Kotahi Rau Pukapuka. Hana is currently completing her PhD thesis in the field of socio-linguistics at the University of Canterbury.
